BOLGA BASKETS

Colorful Bolga baskets displayed on wooden stools with green plant decor.

Ghana, a West African country that lies a few degrees north of the equator along the Gulf of Guinea, is dominated by fast forests, shrublands, and grasslands. Dried grasses from these areas are woven into baskets by the indigenous tribes around Bolgatanga in the north. Universally known as Bolga baskets, these are woven in natural colours or recognizable bright patterns.
